CKDU SUMMER JOBS!

CKDU is Hiring 3 Summer Positions!

ABORIGINAL PROGRAMMING COORDINATOR

CKDU FM is the non-profit community-based campus station at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. CKDU is mandated to provide an alternative to private and public broadcasters, providing a forum for diverse and under-represented voices, music and news. The station broadcasts within the HRM 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and is run by more than 200 volunteers.

Nature of the Job
The Aboriginal Programming Coordinator will be responsible for outreach to aboriginal communities and the development of regular aboriginal programming at CKDU. Further, the coordinator will be encouraged to work on focus programming for Aboriginal People's Day on June 21st. The coordinator will work to create audio and print outreach materials, present workshops on community radio, alternative media and media empowerment. The coordinator will be supported by the CKDU Outreach committee and the staff collective.

Qualifications
Candiates should have strong organizational and communications skills. They should have a familiarity and demonstrated commitment to aboriginal communities and advocacy. Although it is not a requirement for the position, applicants are encouraged to note any experience working with community or audio projects, or community radio. The candidate must be able to work independently and be goal oriented. Candidates are encouraged to familiarize themselves with CKDU FM's mandate.

This is a 13 week, $3685.50 summer contract made possible by the HRSDC Canada Summer Jobs Program for Students. Candidates must be between 15-30 years old and have been students during the past school year and planning to return in the fall.
Start Date is June 9th, 2008

SUMMER EVENTS AND PROGRAMMING COORDINATOR

Nature of the Job
The Summer Events and Programming Coordinator will work with the support of the CKDU staff collective to plan and implement the Concert on the Other Hill Canada Day Festival. The student will also assist with summer programming and scheduling, and work towards fall recruitment and events. The coordinator will have the opportunity to develop skills in radio broacasting, community outreach and events and programming coordination.

C@P INTERN: YOUTH JOURNALISM PROJECT COORDINATOR

CKDU FM is the non-profit community-based campus station at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. CKDU is mandated to provide an alternative to private and public broadcasters, providing a forum for diverse and under-represented voices, music and news. The station broadcasts within the HRM 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and is run by more than 200 volunteers.

Nature of the Job:
CKDU FM has been awarded an internship from the Halifax Regional Community Access Program Association to coordinate a Youth Radio Journalism Project, where project participants will receive instruction in radio broadcasting and conduct a series of radio interviews. The Intern will oversee all aspects of the Youth Radio Journalism Project from recruiting, training and coordinating project participants to editing and producing the finished interviews.

Applicants must be currently enrolled as a student or have previously taken one (1) course at a post-secondary institution.

Applicable Skills:
Demonstrated ability coordinating youth (aged 15-30) is essential. Other assets include experience in radio journalism, interviewing, digital audio workstations, field recording equipment; working within a non-profit organization. Although it is not a requirement for the position, applicants are encouraged to note any experience working with community or audio projects, or community radio. The candidate must be able to work independently and be goal oriented. Candidates for the internship are encouraged to familiarize themselves with CKDU FM's mandate.

This is a full-time, 35 hour per week youth (aged 15-30) internship paid by the Halifax Regional Community Access Program Association at a rate of $10 per hour. The term of this internship is twelve (13) weeks, ending in August 2008.
