CKDU-FM is hiring a Broadcast Technician!

The Broadcast Technician is the principal resource person who oversees the operation of all CKDU equipment, including sound hardware and technology, computers, software and databases. The Broadcast Technician promotes high quality audio broadcasting, 24 hours a day on an FM frequency. The Broadcast Technician is responsible for minor equipment repairs and preventative maintenance on a regular schedule, along with installation, maintenance and upgrading of all CKDU broadcasting, office and computer equipment.

Applicable Skills

An electronics and IT background is essential, as well as an aptitude for trouble-shooting and planning. The Broadcast Technician must be able to work with all equipment at the station. The position requires strong organizational and communication abilities and is best suited for a self-directed, motivated individual who is able to prioritize and carry out tasks at hand. Knowledge of and proficiency with Linux/Unix operating systems, html, PHP and MySQL (or similar code and programming languages) is a requirement.

Accountability

The Broadcast Technician is accountable to the CKDU Board of Directors, is the staff representative on the Facilities Management Committee, and works closely with other staff members and committees.

Specific Responsibilities

* Attend weekly staff meetings, take part in consensus decision-making and participate in a cooperative staff structure
* With other members of staff, assist in aspects of Funding Drive as required
* Maintain healthy relationship with the volunteers, take part in decision-making in programmers' meetings and programmer-driven committee meetings
* Hold a weekly technical training session
* Perform preventative maintenance and simple repairs to studio broadcasting and audio equipment
* Screen and prioritize technical fault reports
* Source and purchase parts, materials and supplies as needed
* Be on call for technical emergencies
* Research and plan equipment upgrades and long-term goals for the station's technical structure
* Maintain regular contact with consultant Broadcast Engineer and act as liaison between station and Engineering Staff
* System administration for studio, office, audio logging and server computer systems
* Maintain and update the CKDU Technical Manual

Salary: $15.75 per hour
Terms: 20 hours per week
