Producer & Archivist
CKDU-FM
is a non-profit campus and community radio station based at Dalhousie
University serving listeners throughout the Halifax Regional
Municipality. Our mandate is to provide an alternative to private and
public broadcasters and serve as a forum for diverse and
under-represented voices and artists. The station broadcasts 24 hours
a day, 365 days a year and is run by roughly 150 volunteers, a
volunteer board of directors, and 4 permanent part-time staff.
Duties
& Responsibilities (in order of priority)
- Produce and/or coordinate production of audio spots for sponsorships, in-house promotions, and public service announcements;
- Transfer audio content from reel-to-reel, cassette, and CD to digital files, and store on server and DVD;
- Listen to audio and create data associated with content (date, programmer and program name, topic, content summary);
- Label, catalogue, and maintain organization in CKDU's physical and digital libraries;
- Digitize and archive CKDU's extensive local, regional and national physical music library;
- Tape lectures, presentations, workshops, or events in the community and package for broadcast;
- Assist the Program Director with department duties;
- Coordinate, train, and assist CKDU volunteers in basic audio production;
- Undergo training to become a permanent member and fill-in programmer at CKDU;
- Assist with shared office duties.
Qualifications
- Strong organizational skills, detail-oriented;
- Self-motivated and ability to work independently as well as in a team environment;
- Experience in community-based organizations or community radio;
- Knowledge of CKDU, its mandate and programming;
- Flexible and able to work with others creatively.

Requirements
This
is a Canada Summer Jobs funded position. According to program
policies, qualified applicants:
- - Are between 15 and 30 years of age at the time of hire
- - Have been registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;
- - Are Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or have official refugee protection status under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (foreign students are not eligible); and
- - Are legally entitled to work in Canada, according to relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.

Wage:
$12.72/hr (318/wk) for 8 weeks

of the Job
The Promotions Coordinator will be responsible for developing outreach materials, organizing CKDU's presence at local events, and building co-promotional opportunities with local organizations. The individual will coordinate CKDU's presence at summer events and festivals in the Halifax Regional Municipality, work with CKDU Programmers to promote their radio shows at targeted outlets, develop audio and print outreach materials, and engage the public in community media and media empowerment. The Coordinator will be supported by CKDU staff and volunteers.

Duties & Responsibilities (in order of priority)
- Coordinate CKDU presence (tabling, dj's, banner placement, etc.) at cultural and educational events (eg. Africa Festival for Arts and Culture, Pride, JazzFest, Multicultural Festival, smaller community events & block parties throughout the city);
- Coordinate and distribute general CKDU promotions and volunteer opportunities through social media, flyers, mailing lists, outreach and workshops;
- Promote CKDU's activities and events through various online and social media platforms (operating under CKDU's social media policy);
- Build partnerships and cross-promotional opportunities with community-based organizations and events throughout Halifax and on campus with co-sponsorships, workshops, events, and promotional outlets;
- With input from the CKDU staff collective, collect information about listener stats from regional campus, community, and public radio stations; keep track of data;
- Work with members of the Dalhousie Student Union and King's Student Union to organize CKDU's presence at campus orientation events for late August/September;
- Update existing Friends of CKDU contracts and recruit new businesses to become Friends of the station;
- Assist CKDU programmers in promoting their shows through flyers, mailing lists, websites, social networking, community partners;
- Undergo training to become a permanent member and fill-in programmer at CKDU;
- Assist with shared office duties.
Qualifications
- Self-motivated;
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment;
- Strong organizational and communications skills;
- Experience in community-based organizations or community radio;
- Knowledge of CKDU, its mandate and programming;
- Outgoing in nature and ability to engage and communicate effectively with others;
- Flexible and able to work with others creatively.
