Promotions
& Events Coordinator
CKDU-FM
is a non-profit campus and community radio station based at Dalhousie
University serving listeners throughout the Halifax Regional
Municipality. Our mandate is to provide an alternative to private and
public broadcasters and serve as a forum for diverse and
under-represented voices and artists. The station broadcasts 24 hours
a day, 365 days a year and is run by roughly 150 volunteers, a
volunteer board of directors, and 5 permanent part-time staff.
Duties
& Responsibilities
- Assist CKDU programmers in promoting their shows through flyers, mailing lists, websites, and social networking media, through one-to-one assistance, as well as offering several workshops for programmers throughout the summer
- Coordinate CKDU presence (tabling or mobile sound team) at as many events as possible throughout the work period (eg. Bike Week, Pride, JazzFest, Multicultural Festival, smaller community events & block parties throughout the city.)
- Coordinate general CKDU promotions through social media, flyers, mailing lists, outreach and workshops
- Build partnerships with like-minded organizations throughout Halifax and on campus through co-sponsorships, events, and promotional outlets, and liaise with community groups and events to coordinate cross-promotion, and increase new volunteer recruitment
- Solicit Friends of CKDU (FoCKDU) partnerships and connect with already existing FoCKDU
- Assist in planning and coordinating CKDU's annual Community Summer Picnic
- Assist as needed with CKDU Funding Drive preparations
- Sit on Promotions Committee, Production Committee, and Fundraising Committee
- Undergo training to become a permanent member and fill-in programmer at CKDU
- Participate in weekly staff meetings and shared office duties
Qualifications
- Strong organizational and communications skills;
- Self-motivated and able to work independently as well as in a team environment;
- Experience in community-based organizations or community radio;
- Specific experience in promotions or event planning an asset;
- Knowledge of CKDU, it's mandate and programming;
- Outgoing nature and ability to engage and communicate effectively with others;
- Flexible and able to work with others creatively.

Requirements
This
is a Canada Summer Jobs funded position. According to program
policies, qualified applicants:
- Are between 15 and 30 years of age at the time of hire
- Have been registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;
- Are Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or have official refugee protection status under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (foreign students are not eligible); and
- Are legally entitled to work in Canada, according to relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.

25 - 35hrs per week, flexible, some weekends & evenings as
needed.
Wage:
$271.60/wk for 10 weeks

/ Visual Production Coordinator

Duties
& Responsibilities
- Design and produce print/web material to promote CKDU events, trainings, workshops, and programming
- Design and produce audio content for CKDU's airwaves promoting events, trainings, workshops, and programming
- Archive CKDU's massive catalogue of print/poster media
- Transfer designated sections of CKDU's music library from CD to server based storage
- Produce and/or coordinate production of CKDU's sponsorship, promotional, and public service announcements
- Coordinate, train, and assist CKDU volunteers in basic audio production
- Assist as needed with CKDU Funding Drive preparations
- Sit on Promotions Committee, Production Committee, Funding Drive Committee
- Undergo training to become a permanent member and fill-in programmer at CKDU
- Participate in weekly staff meetings and shared office duties
Qualifications
Essential
skills:
- Design/layout skills for print media and web purposes
- Comfortable working with computers and knowledge of various design programs
- Comfortable communicating one-on-one when consulting volunteers
- Ability to learn new computer systems and audio editing software
- Self-motivated and able to work independently as well as in a team environment;
- Knowledge of CKDU, it's mandate and programming;
- Flexible and able to work with others creatively.
Desired
Skills:
- Digital recording and multi-track editing skills
- Experience in community-based organizations or community radio and/or familiarity with CKDU studios
- Writing skills: clear & precise for archival data, and creative for script writing
- Proficiency with digital audio formats
- Familiarity with Linux operating systems and open source software
