CKDU LAUNCHES SOUND WORKS
SUMMER WORKSHOP FOR YOUTH!
The
CKDU Sound Works program is an opportunity for youth (anyone under 20)
to get involved with the CKDU 88.1FM, write and read poetry,
explore the majesty of sound, develop their writing and spoken word
skills, learn to record and edit audio and record a cd of their spoken
word poetry. The program will kick off with an afternoon "retreat" on
July 9th and then there will be weekly workshops running until August
31st when the youth will host their CD launch party.
Right now we are in the process of spreading the word to youth who might
be interested in this sort of project. It will be a commitment of two
afternoons a week for 8 weeks (Monday and Wednesday from 5pm to 7pm). Participants will:
- become fully-trained CKDU broadcasters
- build a poetry portfolio
- record a CD and
- make new friends in an awesome community!
We are also seeking interested spoken word artists, poets, sound artists
and audio producers who might be interested in coming in to give a
reading, run a workshop or just hang out with the youth as they write
and speak their words. We are currently seeking funding that would
allow us to give an honorarium for artist involvement but at this time
it would be on a volunteer basis.
If you or anyone you know might be interested in getting involved with
this project in anyway please call the CKDU office at (902) 494-6479 or pass along the good word and send an email to ckdusoundworks@gmail.com
