Coordinator
CKDU-FM
is a non-profit campus and community radio station based at Dalhousie
University serving listeners throughout the Halifax Regional
Municipality. Our mandate is to provide an alternative to private and
public broadcasters and serve as a forum for diverse and
underrepresented voices and artists. The station broadcasts 24 hours
a day, 365 days a year and is run by roughly 150 volunteers, a
volunteer board of directors, and 5 permanent part-time staff.
Nature
of the Job
The CKDU Production
Coordinator is a grant-funded, part-time position that works with
CKDU Staff Collective to facilitate, maintain, and coordinate the
production of audio content for the purpose of broadcast.
Duties
& Responsibilities
The duties of the
Production Coordinator are as follows:
- Support CKDU Programmers in creating promotional materials for their shows (audio show promos, host bios, show descriptions, handbills, etc.)
- Design and produce in-house promotional material for CKDU-related events, orientations, workshops, and programming in collaboration with the Production Committee
- Assist the production, design, and audio recording of CKDU's Public Service Announcement (PSA) content as per the Spoken Word Department's PSA Strategy
- Assist in outreach to Dalhousie University and King's College communities by facilitating the promotion of community and University-based events, lectures and community/student services in collaboration with the Spoken Word Department and the production of PSA and audio content for these events
- Participate in Spoken Word Committee and Production Committee meetings
- Assist as needed with CKDU Homelessness Marathon production activities
- Undergo training to become a permanent member and Programmer at CKDU
- Participate in weekly staff meetings and shared office duties
Required
Qualifications:
- Computer skills: basic office, basic layout & design, social networking, information systems or databases;
- Ability to prioritize, set, and achieve goals;
- Comfortable working with computers and knowledge of various design programs;
- Comfortable communicating one-on-one when working with volunteers;
- Ability to learn new computer systems and audio editing software;
- Self-motivated and able to work independently as well as in a team environment;
- Flexible and able to work with others creatively.
Desired
Qualifications:
- Digital recording and multi-track editing skills;
- Experience in community radio;
- Experience in community-based not-for-profit organizations or community radio and/or familiarity with CKDU studios;
- Writing skills: clear & precise for archival data, and creative for script writing;
- Proficiency with digital audio formats;
- Familiarity with Linux operating systems and open source software; and
- Experience in or understanding of non-hierarchical staff structures.
Hours
and compensation:
This
is a grant-paid, part-time employment opportunity. The Production
Coordinator is accountable to the CKDU Board of Directors.
Hours:
20hrs per week, flexible, some weekends & evenings as needed.
Wage:
$16.50/hour
Start
date: January 8, 2013
End
date: August 31, 2013 (34 weeks)
