CKDU-FM
is a non-profit campus and community radio station based at Dalhousie
University serving listeners throughout the Halifax Regional
Municipality. Our mandate is to provide an alternative to private and
public broadcasters and serve as a forum for diverse and
under-represented voices and artists. The station broadcasts 24 hours
a day, 365 days a year and is run by roughly 150 volunteers, a
volunteer Board of Directors, and 4 permanent part-time
staff.
Nature of the job:
The Events and Communications Coordinator will be responsible for initiating, facilitating, and coordinating events, communications, and outreach for CKDU FM Society. This position focuses on event planning and event support, promotions, volunteer coordination, and marketing for large-scale events such as CKDU's Annual Funding Drive (November 18-25), Homelessness Marathon (mid-February) and general station awareness on Dalhousie and King's campus and the surrounding community. The Events and Communications Coordinator reports to the Station Coordinator and works in cooperation with the CKDU permanent staff collective & membership.

Duties
& responsibilities:
The
duties of the Events and Communications Coordinator are as follows:
- Coordinate key events (Funding Drive, Homelessness Marathon, tabling, fundraisers, etc.) with volunteers and staff;
- Coordinate general promotion for events, including but not limited to, media releases and advertisements;
- Encourage and provide support to CKDU volunteers planning events;
- Coordinate, train, and support volunteers during events (phone operators, data entry, cheerleaders, event tablers, etc.);
- Work with the Dalhousie and King's Student Unions to maintain a positive working relationship and facilitate CKDU presence on both campuses;
- Coordinate creation and distribution of required promotional materials and toolkits i.e. volunteer guide for specific events, handbills, etc.;
- Maintain a positive daily presence on CKDU's social media network and website using CKDU's social media policy;
- Solicit prizes and gift certificates for fundraising incentives;
- Ensure that all programmers are aware of their fundraising goals and responsibilities;
- Coordinate, with the Production Committee, production of on-air advertisements associated with events and programming;
- Coordinate record keeping (contra deals, sponsorship contracts, sales invoices) and pledge payment system in conjunction with Station Coordinato, and assist with data entry;
- Organize mail-outs, solicitation, thank yous and event reports associated with events;
- Complete a final report outlining activities, successes and challenges;
- Attend bi-weekly meetings with the Events Committee and Funding Drive Committee;
- Maintain regular office hours on CKDU-FM's premises; and
- Maintain healthy relationship with staff and volunteers, take part in decision-making in programmers' meetings and programmer-driven committee meetings

- Demonstration of commitment to the University campus
- Confident social skills
- Management/coordination of events, small or large
- Computer skills: basic office, basic layout & design, social networking, information systems or databases
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to prioritize, set, and achieve goals
- Knowledge of CKDU's mandate
- Experience with community organizations and/or not-for-profit organizations
Accountability, Hours, and Remuneration:
The Events and Communications Coordinator is a short-term contract position that reports to the Station Coordinator and is accountable to the CKDU Board of Directors.
The
contract position is for 28 weeks at minimum 25 hours per week
starting Monday September 16 2013 and finishing on Friday March 29
2014 (not including holidays December 21, 2013-January 5, 2014) for a
total of 745 hours over the contract period.
Compensation
is in the amount of $14.50 per hour. Hours are flexible and fluctuate
according to event schedules, considering the nature of the position.
The suggested weekly schedule is as follows:
Weeks
1-9: 25 hours per week
Weeks
10+11 (Funding Drive): 40 hours per week
Weeks
12-15: 25 hours per week
