CKDU IS HIRING A
Diversity & Outreach Programming Coordinator

CKDU-FM is a non-profit campus and community radio station based at Dalhousie University serving listeners throughout the Halifax Regional Municipality. Our mandate is to provide an alternative to private and public broadcasters and serve as a forum for diverse and under-represented voices and artists. The station broadcasts 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and is run by roughly 150 volunteers, a volunteer board of directors, and 4 permanent part-time staff.

Nature of the Job
The Diversity and Outreach Programming Coordinator will be responsible for helping to build CKDU's listenership and member participation in student communities and diverse or marginalized communities throughout Halifax. The staff person will create avenues for campus and community involvement in the station and create opportunities for exposing CKDU to the wider community. The staff person will coordinate and produce specialized programming for CKDU's airwaves, create audio and print outreach materials, host presentations and/or workshops about community radio in various locations on campus and in the community, and build interest in alternative media and media empowerment. This project is made possible with support from the Community Radio Fund of Canada.
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Work to increase CKDU's presence in diverse, marginalized communities and the Dalhousie/King's community, and work to incorporate their voices on CKDU's airwaves;
  • Coordinate, facilitate, and create original programming, including studio and remote broadcasts, with a focus on Dalhousie, King's, and marginalized communities in Halifax;
  • Coordinate and execute general CKDU promotions, including social media presence, postering, web presence, and other promotional opportunities;
  • Coordinate CKDU presence (tabling, dj's, banner placement, etc.) at cultural and educational events, in diverse and marginalized communities in the municipality, on campus, and in surrounding areas;
  • Build partnerships with community and campus-based organizations throughout the region by developing co-sponsorships, cross-promotional opportunities, workshops, and events;
  • Develop a method to provide statistics and feedback about and from CKDU's listeners and supporters;
  • Assist CKDU programmers in promoting their shows through flyers, mailing lists, websites, social networking, community partners;
  • Be available for production training for CKDU Members, volunteers, and community members;
  • Undergo training to become a permanent member and fill-in programmer at CKDU, and attend programmer meetings;
  • Participate in the staff collective including attending weekly collective meetings;
  • Assist with shared station and office duties.


    Qualifications
  • Self-motivated;
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment;
  • Strong organizational and communications skills;
  • Experience in community-based organizations or community radio;
  • Knowledge of CKDU, its mandate and programming;
  • Outgoing in nature and ability to engage and communicate effectively with others;
  • Flexible and able to work with others creatively;
  • Ability to learn new technology quickly and independently

HOURS & RENUMERATION
The Diversity and Outreach Programming Coordinator is a one-year, full-time contract position. Start date is ideally Monday August 10, 2015. Compensation is paid monthly through Dalhousie University Payroll Services. The Diversity and Outreach Programming Coordinator is eligible for holidays and vacation time as indicated in the CKDU Employment Policy.

Hours: 40 hrs per week, flexible, some weekends & evenings as needed.
Salary: $41,600 (based on $20 per hour, 40 hours per week)
Start date: Monday, August 10, 2015
End date: Friday August 5, 2016
