CKDU is hiring a SPOKEN WORD COORDNIATOR!

CKDU FM is the non-profit campus-based community radio station at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. CKDU is mandated to provide an alternative to private and public broadcasters, providing a forum for diverse and under-represented voices, music and news. The station broadcasts within the HRM 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and is run by more than 200 volunteers.


Nature of the Job:

The Spoken Word Coordinator has a keen and demonstrated interest in and knowledge of local and global issues. The Coordinator will pursue local news and issues, liaise with volunteers and community organizations. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, coordination and facilitation of daily original programming, including the CKDU News collective on weekday mornings, overseeing quality control of original and syndicated spoken work programming, maintaining public service anouncements, training volunteers, and working as a member of the CKDU staff collective. The coordinator also ensures that news and spoken word programming conform to CRTC regulations and CKDU policies.


This is a full time 40 hour per week position at $12.50 per hour and is a 2 year contract that commences March 31st, 2008.


Applicable Skills:

Essential skills include: a demonstrated ability to coordinate volunteers; experience working with people with diverse experiences and identities; experience working with audio projects, or community radio. The coordinator should have strong organizational and interpersonal skills, and must be able to work independently and be able to manage deadlines. Other assets include experience working within a non-profit organization; an interest in and understanding of community organizations; and experience with consensus-based decision making.
