HOMELESSNESS MARATHON

On Wednesday, February 20th, CKDU 88.1 FM will broadcast the 6th Annual Homelessness Marathon, beginning at 6:00 pm (Atlantic time) until 8:00 am the next morning. The Homelessness Marathon is a live broadcast from the Native Friendship Centre in Montreal, streamed on over thirty campus and community radio stations across the country. With the goal of being a consciousness-raising event, the Marathon will provide an opportunity for homeless people and their supporters to take to the airwaves, and allow a nationwide discussion on homelessness issues and possible solutions.

Some of the topics to be discussed during the 6th Annual Homelessness Marathon include: disabilities in the streets, indigenous homelessness, refugees and homelessness, a critical look at services, poverty on the move - from downtown to the suburbs, theatre in the streets, open mic poetry, policing poverty, racism and poverty in the street, literacy and education in the streets, homelessness and working, and physical and mental health on the street.
